I bought my domain 3 years ago from a domain provider for such a very cheap price and I didn’t know it would cost me a lot!! I mean A LOT! I bought the domain at $1 for the first year and with auto-renewal on my credit card annually. When I bought it, it says it will be $10 after 1 year but when i looked at my card, the charge was $35 after a year. But i didn’t complain and I thought I will just switch provider at the end of the year. So, this year when I was about to switch provider, I called the credit card company to verify whether or not I’ve been charged yet, and to my surprise I was charged 2 weeks before my account turns 2nd year with them and it really pissed me off. I am thinking if I bought domain from a regular provider which offers regular price it would have cost me $30 or less for 3 years. So for my current provider, it already cost me $71 which is about 250% more.
Lesson learned, don’t rush buying things that seem economical, you need to examine first whether or not there is a catch associated with the promo, a lot of marketing tactics nowadays would entice you with a lower cost for the first time and later would you realize that you were actually ripped off.
If you are going to get a domain, I recommend that you get it from www. goddady.com, www.bluehost.com, www.ctcd.com and a lot more domain providers which offers domain for $10 per year only. Be wise!
