It’s 7 days to go before the big day for graduates of BS Nursing in the Philippines. It’s time to get their license. I believe every examinee is now ready for the exam after more 4 years of study and 2 months review. For the examinees, here are the simple tips that I can share with you:1. Know your testing center ahead of time. For your testing center assignment, see PRC list.2. Visit the testing center where you are assigned so that during the examination day you can get there one time. Be at the examination room before 6:30. PRC will not accept late examinees.3. Bring all the important pieces of document such as the Notice of Admission (NOA) issued by Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), window envelope with metered stamp4. Bring 2 pieces of Mongol 2 pencil, black ballpointpen, brown envelope, transparent envelope and a pencil sharpener.5. Bring calculator but not a scientific or programmable calculator.6. Bring your food such as snack and packed meal (I think examinee is not allowed to go out of the testing compound, plus having you own packed meal will save you time).7. Be prepared. Take a rest before the exam and pray. God bless to every examinee!

Yesterday, my group had a chance to be given exposure at Medical Intensive Care Unit in a hospital as part of the BSN curriculum.

The moment I stepped in at the ICU ward, I immediately felt the spirit of fear that someone among the patients within the ward might die anytime. This is because almost all of them are getting their life from the respirator attached to their frail body, almost all of them are unconscious anymore.

One patient assigned to me had her 3 daughters and 2 grand daughters as her visitor yesterday, every time I go to my patient and get her vital signs, I would always see her daughters crying and talking with their mother who is lying on the bed, with eyes open yet can’t see nor hear them anymore..it seems that the patient’s body was there yet her presence was not there anymore…

I remember the thoughts about my father seeing that moments of mother and daughters in the hospital yesterday. Yes, it feels so much pain when you see the one you love almost at the point of giving up life because he/she is already tired to live due to the illness that s/he feels.

I was just reminded that one day, all of us will join God, our Creator, but I hope that we will be ready when that time comes…we can say to God, “Yes, God, take me I am ready to be with you and I will be happy to be with you.” I hope that all of us will be with God in eternity…

I would like to commend my clinical instructor (CI), Ms. Nancy Legazpi. She was my group’s CI when we were assigned to render duty/exposure at San Lazaro Hospital. She stood out among the CI’s who handled our group because she showed the real sense of professionalism in the art of nursing Related Learning Experience (RLE) teaching. She utilizes every minute that she is paid and really teaches us well. She even come before the time and starts early so that her students would learn everything there is to learn.

I hope that every CI will do the same because there are many lazy CI’s who do not teach their students. I encountered several of them. I hope that all CI’s should behave like Ms Legazpi.

Time goes so fast! I can still remember my first day in nursing school way back in June 2006, and now, am almost done with it. I have been studying for almost 3 years now.

I have 2 more weeks of hospital duty, a week of exposure in Medical Surgical Ward and another week of exposure in San Lazaro Hospital; I also have 1 lecture to attend to until October. After i finish my duty and lecture, I will eventually attend a review class to get ready for Nursing board exam on June 2009.

I was so excited to finish my nursing degree and still excited until now especially that I am in my last sem in school. I can still remember the times that I didn’t read or review the lessons before the exam because I didn’t have enough time to do it. I used to be working in an office at the same time studying at night. I was working fulltime from Monday to Friday (thanks to my boss who allowed me to be absent every Saturday) at 8:30aAM to 5:30Pm and go to school at 6:00PM until 9:00PM and review from 10:00PM to 12:00 midnight. All the hardwork and sacrifices were not wasted because my dream of becoming a nurse is almost at hand. So, I had to give up my work because of so many reasons and one of those is to focus on my study. Studying nursing is fun and I don’t have any regrets about the decision that I made. I look forward to seeing my name included among nursing board passers next year.

On June 12, 2008, St Bernadette College of Health and Sciences conducted its capping, candlelighting and pinning ceremonies in a church along Mindanao Avenue. It was a great feeling being a true-blue nursing student. Although there were some chaos and issues about it but it went well.

Every nursing student is required to undergo capping whether one likes it or not because joining a capping is expensive! Anyway, it’s good to be joining it.
