There’s a lot of opinion going on over the acquittal of Hubert Webb and the 6 others who were convicted 15 years ago of committing mutiple murder aka Vizconde Massacre. People’s opinion are divided into a) Webb’s group who did the crime b) Webb’s group did not do the massacre c) justice system in the Philippines is flawed.

If Webb’s group did not do it, then a) my sympathy goes with Webb’s group for losing 15 years of their life b)I feel sorry for Mr. Vizconde for running after the wrong people and wasting too much money paying for the case c) anger towards the real criminals who until now maybe enjoying and victimizing other people too, and d) a raised eyebrow to the judges who 15 years ago gave the decision about the case.

If Webb’s group did the crime however, here’s what I can say to them a) you may have stayed in the prison long enough b ut may your conscience do not give you rest until you accept the crime and ask forgiveness from the victim’s family b) there is always a second chance and you can always change for the best. To the family of the victim may you find forgiveness in your heart and let the Lord judge because He is just.

Even though Noynoy is not my choice to be the next president of the country, I’m happy that he is leading the partial election result, otherwise it would be Joseph Estrada again. Should Joseph Estrada be elected as the next president again, the country would be an object of ridicule and Filipino values would be questioned by other nations. I have gotten a comment from a friend saying, he could not understand how Filipinos think. He added, an ex-convict president after it has stolen the country’s wealth got higher votes compared to those other candidates who are more deserving compared to him. Marcoses are back in power, Imelda Marcos being elected representative of Ilocos Norte, her daughter Aimee as a governor and her son Bongbong as senator.

The government office would be filled with show business personalities as well. This could only lead to one conclusion. Filipinos vote for those who got beautiful face, famous name and glamor. What a pity! Majority wanted to be entertained and be happy for a short period of time without thinking how it would affect each one’s future and the future of the country. Majority never learn the lesson, majority do not remember that the the candidates that they vote for are the very persons who make the country and its people poor! I hope Filipinos would be sensible, and wise in voting next time.

I have come across with a friend’s post about the crazy amount that Villar and Aquino has spent for this election. The article from PCIJ also mentioned the budget of the other 4 presidential candidates. Pertaining to Villar and Aquino’s budget, the articles says,

"Villar’s two-month ad spending total of P273 million is more than the P205-million budget this year of the Department of Education’s School Health and Nutrition Program in the 2010 General Appropriations Act. It is also way more than the P207 million of the Quirino Memorial Medical Center, and the P179 million of the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center in the 2010 budget.

Similarly, Villar’s ad spending and Aquino’s P176-million ad buys in the first 60 days of the campaign are also bigger than the P168-million budget of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, the P151 million of the National Children’s Hospital, the P132 million of the Tondo Medical Center, the P122.8 million for “Health Care Assistance” to indigents in various public hospitals, the P112 million of the National Anti-Poverty Commission, the P90.9 million for the DepEd’s Medical/Dental and Optical Health and Nursing Services, the P60.5 million of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor, and the P63.8 million of the Philippine Commission on Women in the 2010 budget.."

Having read the budget that they have spent for their advertisement, how are they going to recover the investment? Investment must be returned, right? otherwise it won’t be a wise investment at all. Have you ever asked how much does the president of the country receives from the paycheck? Let’s say the president receives Php300,000 every month, multiply it by 72 months (6 years) the total is Php21,700,000 only plus power. So, monetary return is less than the investment, how about the power? I guess it’s the power which will give the greatest return of investment.. Be the judge, then.

As election day is getting closer, lots of streamers, posters, flyers, tarpaulins, door hangers and all kinds of print advertisements are seen everywhere which makes the community dirtier. I hope that the politicians who paid to get their faces plastered on walls, trees and streets would also be responsible enough to remove them once election is over. It is a common practice of the politicians to be very good and seem responsible before election but the goodness and sense of responsibility ceases once election is over and he/she did not win. That is why it is very important for voters to have a good sense of judgment and select the best candidates who deserve to be leading the country, and city and community.

There are 7 more days before the election day. Have you decided who you are going to vote? Don’t vote for a person who is paying you a thousand pesos or because you think he/she is the lesser evil or because the survey says he’s going to win, instead, make a stand and choose the best one. Vote for a candidate who has principle and has the vision for his country and its people.

In the bible, God gave guidelines to Israelites how to choose their leader and I believe it still applies up to this time. It’s written in Deuteronomy 17:14-20:

14 When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,”

15 be sure to appoint over you the king the LORD your God chooses. He must be from among your own brothers. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not a brother Israelite.

16 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the LORD has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.”

17 He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

18 When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites.

19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees

20 and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.

I hope this will help you decide whom to vote. May God bless the Philippines.

I’m not a registered voter yet. Well, i tried to register last Saturday when Barangay UP Campus organized a registration day last Friday and Saturday but nothing happened to me. I was at the barangay hall from about 9AM til 3PM but it was not planned well so it was successful. A lot of the people who want to register went hope not happy.

Now, I think I understand why a lot of Filipinos are not registered voters especially those who are working. They can’t afford to waste time. I believe Comelec has to improve its system and make the registration procedure fast and efficiently so that more working Filipinos will be encouraged to register and be able to vote come May 2010. Registration schedule in Comelec office is Mondays to Wednesdays.

Here are some document that one needs to present to Comelec when registering:

- photocopy of any valid ID (any government issued ID, school ID with address)

Mr Barack Obama is the new president of the United States of the America, the strongest and the most powerful country in the world. Obama won 338 electoral votes (McCain have 156 electoral votes), I wonder how Obama feels right now…

When Mr Obama was just doing campaign, I would always watch the TV just to see him deliver his speech because he’s really good at it -he had powerful speeches and delivered them very well. No wonder he has captivated American people.

I do hope that change will really start in America.

Congratulations, Mr Barrack Obama.
