Cleared from Bureau of Immigration, at last!

Summer Savings! $7.49 .com

It’s a great feeling to have my name lifted from the watch list of Bureau of Immigration (BOI). I only learned that I am included in BOI’s watch list last March 2007 when my friend Arelle and I were traveling to Malaysia.

I passed the DOST-SEI scholarship program in 1998 but did not avail of it.  When you are a DOST scholar you have to serve the Philippines for four years or the equivalent years that it has paid your education. Meaning, you can not leave the country within 4 or 5 years ater you have graduated college. Having said this, DOST sends your name to Bureau of National Investigation and Bureua of Immigration (BOI).  You may opt to leave the country but you have to pay the total amount DOST has spent for your education so you may be allowed to leave the country.

Having my name lifted from the watch list of BOI is so easy and fast. Since I have been issued with a clearance from DOST, the verifcation staff has just looked at the computer and did something (maybe erased my name?) and stamped the document that I gave with "No Deregatory Record". That means when I travel to another country next time there would be no more hassle.

Bureau of Immigration is located at the back of Intramuros.  It’s my first time to go there and I didn’t have any hassle in getting my clearance because the staff were very helpful and efficient. The department that releases clearance is located at the 3rd floor of the building called Verification and Certification Unit.

thanks sa info.. i thought sa airport na ma finally clear. so you have to go pa to BOI to clear things up prior to your travel? i need a reply soon. i am from cagayan de oro but i will be in manila on the 25th of augustthanks thanks

  2. yes, you need to ask clearance from dost and bring it to Bureau of Immigration, and if you’re going out of the country make sure to bring the clearance with you as well so that if something happens, you can easily show it to the authority.

    cheers,

    Julie

hi julie, did you pay any amount at the BOI for the processing of your clearance?
how many days did it take for the processing?

    thanks,
    joan

  4. dost scholar says:

    may bayad po ang clearance.
more than 1k yung sa akin.
swerte kung matapos ng isang araw.
pero kung ayaw mong maghintay, balikan mo the next day. dapat meron na.

  5. really, meron na bayad ngayon? nung kumuha kasi ako ng clearance from DOST that was 2004 pa walang bayad, when I had my name cleared from BOI in early 2008 wala rin bayad…

  6. Christian says:

    GAAAH!

I had a friend in Ateneo who got his clearance from BOI without paying anything, while I had to pay 1K.

    Same date: December 2008. wtf!

Anyways, Julie, did you go to a specific counter or something?

  7. @Christian: when I went there, I brought the clearance which I asked from DOST/SEI and went to BOI Certification and Verification unit. i showed the clearance and my name was removed from the watchlist.

Di ko alam bakit pinagbayad ka. :-)

  8. roxan says:

ako rin,, i just went there this morning and my clearance was just stamped no derogatory records. i did not pay anything. and the staff assured me that i can get out of the country by just showing that stamped clearance. :D

  9. Great to hear that, Roxan! Thanks for sharing :-)

Same here, I went to BOI last Monday, waited for around 15 minutes and got the clearance stamped with “No derogatory records” . I didn’t pay for anything. I missed to ask the staff for further info but she did say, “OK na yan, Ma’am”. Got a bit worried after because I have a friend who says she got a separate document from BOI with a dry seal, stating the she’s already cleared or something.

@Julie, so this stamped clearance is all good? Good to know :) You got past airport immigration and your name no longer came up the watchlist?

  11. yes, but make sure to bring the clearance from DOST with the stamp from BOI para ready ka lang in case d pa naremove name mo sa watch list. ;-)

hello, i am currently under DOST for masteral but i have to go to a training in U.S for two weeks lang naman, yong employer ko na din ang kumuha ng visa for me nakakuha na ako ng NBI clearance and passport valid until nov. this year, kailangan ko pa ba kumuha ng travel clearance from dost? worried lang ako baka maharang ako sa BOI. Thank you ^^,

  13. I believe you need to have yourself cleared from BOI para d ka maharang sa airport. All DOST scholars may not be allowed to go out of the country unless you are cleared from DOST and BOI. I suggest, better na secure mo clearance mo para ready ka whatever happens.

Enjoy your time in the U.S.

    Cheers,
    Julie

hi, I received a clearance from DOST year 2008, along with it a letter for NBI,DFA and BOI that I am already cleared with DOST seal po un, need ko po pa rin bang pmunta sa 3 offices n un?or ung clearance na rin ang ippresent ko sa DFA and immigration? please i need ur response..thanks

  15. Hi Jessa,

I received the same thing but my name still appeared on BI’s watchlist that’s why I was almost not allowed to go out of the country in 2007. If you’re planning to go out of the country, be sure to go to BI and have your name removed from their list.

    God bless!

  16. aiza says:

hi, nakakuha na ko ng NBI clearance at meron na din akong passport, kelangan ko pa rin bang pumunta sa BOI para maclear ung name ko sa watchlist? thanks.

  17. Hi Aiza,

In my case, I got an NBI clearance and got a passport too but my name was still on the watchlist. I guess, to make sure that there will be no hassle at the airport, go to the BOI and have your name cleared from their list.

    God bless,
    Julie

    hi aiza

trust me u need to go to BOI to be cleared from the watchlist..ako meron akong passport at nbi. pero nahold pa rin ako sa immigration sa airport during my flight going to singapore..ssoooo bad experience…tourist lang ako pero nahold pa rin ako..

then pinakita ko sa kanila yung clearance ko from dost. sabi nila “not enough”.For formality lang daw so they instructed me to go to BOI in magallanes drive, intramuros, manila.

  19. Hi Aiza,

OMG, grabe naman experience mo. Ako, pinasend ko lang by fax ang clearance ko from office sa Immigration sa airport, then they allowed me to go. I think, depende sa Immigration officer na titingin sa clearance mo. So di ka nakaalis?
