Facial acne

Just a trivia, acne has two classifications, namely – noninflammatory and inflammatory.  Noninflammatory acne lesions are commonly called pimples, whitehead and blackheads while inflammatory acne lesions are called comedones, erythematous pustules and cysts.  The inflammation is usually caused by irritation from fatty acid component of sebum and from the bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes.  There are three common types of acne which include Acne Vulgaris, Acne Rosacea and Acne Conglobata. Acne Vulgaris is common in adolescents and young to middle adults with possible causes include androgenic influence on sebaceous glands, increased sebum production, and multiplication of P.acnes bacteria. This type of acne mostly form on the face, and neck but may also occur on the back, chest and shoulders.  Acne Rosacea is a chronic type of facial acne that is commonly seen in middle and older adults which causes changes in skin color, enlarged pores, and some cases thickening of the soft tissues of the nose. Lastly, the third type, Acne Conglobata, is also a chronic type that begins in middle adulthood, it has unknown cause just like Acne Rosacea. Acne Conglobata causes serious skin lesions such as comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, cysts and scars that occur primarily on the back, buttock and chest, but may occur on other body surface.

Acne treatment regardless of type and location is similar but is tailored to the individual and the severity of case. It may be back acne treatment, facial acne treatment, etc.  Most of the time, vitamin A analogues/derivatives are used to treat acne.  For pregnant women, take cautious on using anti-acne medication.
