When I was having a high fever, I went to the nearest hospital in our place which happens to be a public hospital. I told my roomate to bring me to emergency department so I can be given with an Intravenous (IV) fluid immediately. Upon arrival at the the emergency department, I was interviewed about the history of my fever and so on which lasted for about 5 minutes (this is part of the admission procedure). After that, I was told to see the doctor and I was given with bed.
Being in a public hospital is a humiliating experience because beds were located in hallway, male and female are mixed, no curtains to separate each patient. I think the bed assigned to me was previously used by another patient and linen wasnt changed with new one. But then, since i didn’t feel well, I wasn’t able to complain and tell the staff to change linen first. My primary concern was to lie down, rest and have an IV fluid attached to me. Another thing that I don’t like in public hospital is that students are the ones assisting and giving medications to the patients, you need to call the Clinical Instructor so you can be given care by a professional health care practitioner.
