I feel sorry about the class review today due to the many tasks that I still have to finish before I leave the Philippines today.  Anyway, I was able to attend foa short period of time this morning.  The lecturer discussed about Freud Psychosexual theory and Erikson’s psychosocial theory.

Everyone of us used to be a child and many are future parents.  It’s nice to understand the psychology of person from infant till end of life.  Freud’s theory was about the stages of Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency and Genital Stage. 

All parents have great conribution on the development of each individual.  Oral stage is from 0-1 year of age which is characterized by oral gratification. This is the time when infant would cry to get attention of parents, try to put into his/her mouth anything, and other things that will satisfy him/her using mouth.  This is also the crucial stage of mother to child bonding as child would demand much attention from his/her mother or primary caregucer at this time.  Without the proper love and attention, autism and paranoia can develop in the latter stage of life. 

Anal Stage talks about toilet training or the bladder and bowel control or the rules and regulations period from 2 to 3 years of age.  In this stage, it is very crucial that parents train child when they are ready, otherwise, if toilet training is given at a very early age, child may develop Obsessive-compulsive  personality disorder (OCPD) characterize by perfectionism and being over-organized.

Phallic Stage is the time when kids are curios about many things and would ask about so many things.  This is the best time for kids to give simple tasks like educational toy such as Lortone rock tumblers , simple and short tasks, etc. This is also the time when kids want to be recognized, therefore, they should be given affirmation when they do something good to develop self-confidence and self-esteem.

Latency period can also mean laziness period. This is the time when kids dont want to take a bath, brush teeth, etc.

Genital Period refers to the stage when individual starts to mature.

Erikson has great psychosocial theory as well
